Communication and Reporting to Parents

Facebook

Through the St Joseph's Catholic School Matamata Facebook page we share some of the learning and fun activities happening at our school, celebrate successes and pass on information to the community.

Seesaw

Seesaw is a great platform for student engagement and family communication. Students are encouraged to create, reflect, share, and collaborate. They share their learning and “show what they know” using photos, videos, drawings, text, PDFs, and links.

Families only have access to their child's journal. This means you will see student work tagged with your child's name and posts the teacher tags with 'Everyone'. Families will also be able to see any comment made by another user on their child's journal posts. Family members cannot access any other student's content.

The Seesaw Family App can be downloaded onto your phone or device by accessing the app from the Apple App store or Google Play store.

Skool Loop App

This is a school calendar app, however other features include access to newsletter, interview bookings, communications or messages and the ability to send through absences if your child is going to be away from school. This app can be downloaded onto your phone from the App Store or Google Play Store.

Learner Led Conferences

Learner Led Conferences take place early in Term 2 and Term 4. Students lead these conferences designed to celebrate their achievements, share their next steps for learning and demonstrate ways that they learn things in class. Appointments, however, can be made at any time throughout the year for a meeting with the classroom teachers by contacting the office.

Written Reports

A mid-year report is sent home prior to Learner Led Conferences in Term 2 and a final report at the end of the year. These show progress and achievement against expected Curriculum Levels.

Other Communications with Teachers

As a small school, we encourage parents/whanau to visit our classrooms on an informal basis to view their child’s work while classes are not in progress. The teachers are happy to discuss any aspect of your child’s progress, however they would prefer you to make an appointment so that they can give you their full attention.

The Principal is available to parents, however, as a teaching Principal it is helpful to phone in advance to make an appointment. You could also email office@stjmta.school.nz
